Kristie Oldson Knapp had a gift for making friends, due in part to her genuine kindness breaking down any barriers between strangers. She possessed a deep sensitivity, born from her unwavering desire to help others. If someone wasn't kind in return, it puzzled her, as kindness was simply her natural way of being. One of Kristie's most defining qualities was her willingness to be there for anyone, anytime. Her motto, "If you need me, call me," wasn't just a saying; it was a promise she lived by, day or night.
From a young age, Kristie knew her calling was in healthcare. She started with a medical assistant program at Muskingum Area Technical College, and while completing her clinical hours at a surgeon's office, she found her true passion. A simple invitation from Dr. Michael Sarap to observe in the operating room sparked a fire within her. That experience solidified her dream of becoming a surgical technician, and she pursued it with characteristic determination. Kristie was forever grateful to Dr. Sarap for guiding her toward her true path, and he, in turn, was a dedicated mentor.
Kristie's legacy of caring and generosity lives on through the Kristie's Way scholarship, offered by the Muskingum County Community Foundation (https://www.mccf.org/Scholarship-Central/Scholarship-Information/344/Kristies-Way-Scholarship). This scholarship honors her memory by supporting young people pursuing higher education, especially those who demonstrate the same compassion and dedication that Kristie embodied. It's a way to keep her spirit alive, ensuring that her kindness continues to ripple outwards, touching the lives of future healthcare heroes.
Kristie's absence is deeply felt, but the world is undoubtedly a better place for the time she was here. She was truly one of a kind, a person whose impact resonated far beyond her immediate circle. The Kristie's Way scholarship serves as a beautiful tribute to her life, a reminder of her unwavering commitment to helping others, and a testament to the enduring power of her kindness.
