During the last years of Sarah Slack’s life, she suffered from macular degeneration, the leading cause of blindness among people over 65. Sarah was determined to do her part to help eradicate blindness and created an endowment fund at The Muskingum County Community Foundation to establish the “Sarah E. Slack Prevention of Blindness Fund.” Since its inception in 2004, this fund has donated more than $1,070,000 to find a cure for the leading causes of blindness, especially macular degeneration.
One benefactor of the fund is The Ohio State University Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences. Dr. Sayoko Moroi, Chair of the Department, said “We are so grateful for their support which provides state of the art imaging equipment and research equipment to further advanced macular degeneration outcomes and research.”
Ms. Slack recognized the potential of a permanent endowment fund at MCCF to carry out her charitable intentions. Through MCCF, charitable gifts keep on giving forever, carrying out the donor’s charitable interest and priorities.
MCCF invites you to remember your favorite charities when making your wills or estate plans. Whether your gifts are large or small, you can impact your community and make it better for generations that follow.
