L. Leona Burrell Memorial Scholarship

Leona Burrell moved to Zanesville from Virginia at the urge of relatives for a fresh start for her family. Remaining here until her passing, she raised three children and had a hand in the raising of several grandchildren. She took special interest and care of her grandson, who she raised and upon whom she imparted many life lessons. With her moral and financial support, her grandson, Robert, was able to realize life-long dreams of entrepreneurship and has gone on to successfully operate two locally-owned businesses for the past 20 years.  

Leona’s undying support of her family has inspired Robert and family to pay it forward to other young people building their careers. We hope this scholarship can help toward furthering the life of another driven and hardworking member of our community. 

Awarded to a high school graduate who is enrolled in a two-year or four-year degree seeking program. Student must be a minority and a resident of Muskingum County.
