Todd Biles Business Scholarship
Todd Russell Biles was born May 14, 1964 at the Bellaire City Hospital, Bellaire, Ohio to Lee and Vicci Biles, Powhatan Point, Ohio. Todd was taken to the church of Christ as an infant and remained a faithful Christian until his death. As a teenager and especially an adult he was very active in the church.
Todd went to kindergarten at Powhatan Grade School, Powhatan Point, Ohio.
In 1970 Todd's father was transferred to Ohio Ferro Alloy in Brilliant, Ohio from the Powhatan Ohio Ferro plant. Todd attended Grade School at Brilliant Elementary and Junior High from 1970 until 1977 when his father was transferred again to the Ohio Ferro Alloy plant in Philo, Ohio. While living in Brilliant, Todd was a very personal and outgoing youth. He and a friend had a large paper route covering the community of Brilliant. We lived one hour from the Pittsburgh Pirate and Pittsburgh Steelers stadiums. A favorite day out was a trip to the Pirate stadium with his friends. For $2.00 per student they ran the upper deck with their baseball gloves trying to catch a home run or fly ball. His dad also had season tickets to the Steelers games in the 70's, a dream for a young boy. They attended every home game. His dad even took him out of school to welcome the Steelers home after their first Super Bowl win. Todd played basketball in grade school and of course baseball in the summer while living in Brilliant.
In 1977, when the family moved to the north end of Zanesville, Todd attended West Muskingum High School. Todd was active in basketball, baseball, track and football. The 1981-82 West M football team was undefeated and Todd had a very successful season. Todd was offered scholarships to two colleges but he chose to go into the family business, 5 B's Inc. started by his parents on June 1, 1980. The name of the company came from the parents, and the three children Paula, Todd & Stacey, thus 5 B's. After graduation Todd played in many basketball city leagues, some sponsored by 5 B's. In 1985 Todd married his high school sweetheart Julie Ansel; together they had 2 children, Shane L.R. Biles and Alana Rae Biles Freeland.
Todd started working for 5 B's on June 1, 1982. His father started training Todd to be the leader of the company from day one in the business. His accomplishments were many; he was tough but kind and compassionate. In 2010 when he became the CEO and President of the company, Todd told his dad he was 70 years old and needed to semi-retire and let him take over the helm of the company. They still made all the major decisions together.
