DETAILS: MCCF asked the OAG’s office to serve as a resource for our local non-profit agencies. Their office generously offered to send Abby Kline, an Associate Assistant Attorney General in the Charitable Law Section of the Ohio Attorney General’s Office to Muskingum County to provide a presentation at 2 different times on the same day, free of charge. Likewise, our local library offered to host the event free of charge.

The OAG’s office realizes that new or existing charitable organizations may have questions or need advice.

The OAG’s office will offer guidelines and best practices on topics including:
PAPERWORK
• How should my organization be set up?
• What filings are required?
• Which policies should my organization have in place?
TRAINING
• How should Board members be trained?
• What should Board members be focusing on?
• How are budgets developed and monitored?
• How do I make sense of a Balance Sheet?
• How do I know if a charity is in good standing?
• How should we establish future goals & put plans in place to meet those goals?
• How should Boards manage top employees (Directors, CEO’s Superintendents, etc.)?

PROBLEM PREVENTION
• What kinds of fundraising activities are permitted?
• How can we prevent theft within our organization?

PRESENTER BACKGROUND: Abby is an Associate Assistant Attorney General in the Charitable Law Section of the Ohio Attorney General’s Office. She has been with this section since 2012. Abby received her B.A. in Philosophy from The College of Wooster in 2008 and her J.D. from the Ohio State University in 2011. Prior to coming to the Ohio Attorney General’s Office, she worked at the Ohio chapter of the Children’s Defense Fund.
