MCCF & CYF Announce Grant Winners

The Muskingum County Community Foundation (MCCF) and Community Youth Foundation (CYF) have announced the winners of their 2017 Spring Grant and Youth Grant competitions.

MCCF Spring Grants

MCCF's Distribution Committee recently reviewed grant requests and the MCCF Board of Trustees voted to provide funding, totaling $35,500, to the following 14 organizations and projects:

• The Animal Shelter Society, Inc. -- $2,500 -- to provide free pet adoptions as part of the “Soldier and Senior” program

• Appalachian Hills of Ohio Territory (AHOOT) -- $5,500 -- to help purchase and install a kiln at Pioneer School Zanesville Clay Center (PSZ)

• Eastside Community Ministry -- $1,000 -- to help with operation and programming costs for the summer youth program

• Habitat for Humanity -- $4,500 -- to provide materials for construction of a house (involving help of local students)

• The Learning for Life Program of the Fellowship of Christ’s Community -- $400 -- to pay transportation costs for educational field trips for mentally challenged adults

• Muskingum County Juvenile Court -- $2,500 -- to provide incentives for participants in Jr. Hope Court and Family Dependency Court

• Muskingum County Literacy Council -- $4,000 -- to purchase books for preschoolers

• Muskingum Valley Park Society -- $1,760-- to purchase materials for Park Passport program

• On the Same Page Muskingum -- $5,000 -- to provide books and other educational materials related to drug abuse prevention

• The Renner Theater -- $120 -- to improve the building front of future Renner Appalachian Cultural Arts Center (beside the Theater building)

• Tri-Valley Middle School -- $3,500 -- to purchase financial literacy curriculum

• YoungLives -- $720 -- Pay for weekend getaway camp for teen moms and mentors

• Zane State Foundation (IDEA Lab) -- $2,000 --to purchase portable equipment for IDEA Lab classes and workshops

• Zanesville Concert Association -- $2,000 -- to cover the cost of student memberships and provide materials for educational outreach

CYF Youth Grants

This year, CYF is awarding a total of $1,300 to four organizations serving local youth:

• Bethel Mission, Inc. -- $600 -- to purchase an iPad Mini and MOBY Max subscription for the after-school program at Bethel Community Center

• Maysville High School Interact Club -- $500 -- to purchase sling bags and canned goods to send home with needy students

• Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY) Ohio South -- $100 -- to support the local HOBY seminar

• Muskingum Valley Council (Boy Scouts of America) -- $100 -- to purchase a cotton candy machine to be used at Scouting events

The Youth Grant Competition allows CYF members to learn about the grantmaking process. Members raised funds to support the awards, reviewed applications, and selected winners. Since 2013, CYF has awarded a total of $7,250 during its annual Youth Grant contests.

CYF is a component of the Muskingum County Community Foundation. It exists to empower youth to make a difference in the community by providing financial and human resources to projects that benefit the youth of Muskingum County. Currently, CYF has more than 70 members.
