Youth Grant Competition Winners Announced

The Muskingum County Community Youth Foundation (CYF) is pleased to announce the winners of its 2013 Youth Grant Competition.
CYF recently reviewed seven grant requests and selected two area organizations to receive $625 each: Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY) Ohio-South—to establish a scholarship fund for their World Leadership Conference, and the Tri-Valley RuriTeen Club—to purchase items for the Epilepsy Foundation Summer Camp.
The Youth Grant Competition, a new project for CYF this year, allowed members to learn about the grantmaking process. CYF members were responsible for raising funds to support the awards before reviewing and selecting grant winners.
CYF is a component of the Muskingum County Community Foundation. It exists to empower youth to make a difference in the community by providing financial and human resources to projects that benefit the youth of Muskingum County. CYF was established with surplus funds from the Muskingum County Community Foundation’s 2000 Groundhog Day Auction. The first meeting was held in January 2001 with 30 area high school freshmen who were designated to serve on the board. Currently, CYF has more than 50 members.
All high school students who live in Muskingum County are eligible to apply for CYF each fall, with preference given to freshmen and sophomores. Once selected, students remain on the board until they graduate by meeting participation requirements. Members typically meet once per month to complete service projects, distribute grants, choose local scholarship winners, and have fun with teambuilding and leadership activities.
