Two area teens have been selected as the recipients of the 2011 Carolyn Ann Weiner Scholarships.
Ashley Gurnicke, a 2011 graduate of Bishop Rosecrans High School, and Sean Bingham, a 2011 graduate of Maysville High School, received the awards.
They each received $500 toward their college tuition and educational expenses.
Gurnicke plans to attend the University of Akron in the fall to major in political science with hopes of becoming an attorney, while Bingham will attend the University of Findlay in its pharmacy program.
Weiner died in 1998 from an inoperable brain tumor. At the time of her death, she was a sophomore at Ohio Dominican College, majoring in elementary education. The scholarship fund was established to honor her dedication to the pursuit of higher education and her commitment to achieving her dream of becoming an elementary teacher.
