Zanesville Resident makes Big Splash in Mini-Pond

By Amanda Hitchcock

Miniature golf pond, that is. By keeping clear of the traps, Dennis Hitchcock, of Zanesville, Ohio made quite an impression during the recent National Harris Cup Tournament in New Jersey.

Hitchcock advanced to the national level by taking first place in the local miniature golf competition, held at Sunrise Bowl. The Muskingum County Community Foundation sponsored the local play-off.

Executive Director David Mitzel organized the Sunrise event as a fund-raiser for the Foundation, which is designed to improve the quality of life in Muskingum County. What Mitzel may not have expected was that he would also produce a mini-golf monster.

While in New Jersey, Hitchcock played through the qualifying level into the advanced, championship round and came in sixth place among over fifty players. Quite a feat, considering he was up against seasoned competitors, one of whom was a third time contender. Although Hitchcock kept his ball out of the water, he did dip his toes in the Atlantic Ocean, while wetting his appetite for more small course competition.
