Muskingum Recreation Center : Overview

The proposed $10 million facility is a joint effort of Ohio University Zanesville (OUZ), the Muskingum County Community Foundation (MCCF), the Muskingum Family Y (the Y), and Genesis Healthcare System (Genesis). The architectural firm of Williams Architects from Carol Stream, Ill., will design the aquatic/recreation facility. It will be built as an addition to Littick Hall and will have two pools, four racquetball courts, a two-lane track, a fitness area, exercise rooms and locker rooms.

The official sized lap-pool will be on the first floor. The fitness area will be on the second floor and will be about twice the size of the existing fitness area at the Genesis Lifestyle & Fitness Center. The Fitness Center on Colony Drive will be sold and its equipment will be transferred to the new facility.

The Littick Hall gymnasium will be refurbished to house two full basketball courts. The facility will be open to the general public, students and members of the Genesis Lifestyle & Fitness Center and the Y.

The Muskingum Recreation Center project partners have selected Williams Architects of Carol Stream, Illinois, to design the facility. The firm will work with local architect Pat Kelly, as well as other local engineers, designers and builders. The design process will include community information sessions. Once construction begins the project will take about 18 months to complete.
