The Thomas Community Service Award 2004 Recipients
Volunteers Honored with Thomas Community Service Award Four community volunteers were honored at the Muskingum County Community Foundation’s ninth annual Donor Recognition and Award Banquet Saturday evening at the Zanesville Country Club. Each recipient was recognized for exemplary community service. The Thomas Community Service Award is named for Ray Thomas, the Founding President of the Muskingum County Community Foundation, and is given to individuals who have donated their time and talents to improve the quality of life in Muskingum County. These volunteers have been instrumental in the success of an organization or community project. Recipients name the nonprofit organization of his or her choice to receive a $1,000 grant from the Muskingum County Community Foundation. Recipients: Carol Boyse & Sandy Kopf For their efforts with the Zanesville Concert Association "Sandy and Carol have put many hours of time and effort behind the scenes to book the world class concerts that our community has enjoyed for the last 30 years. Their efforts have certainly enhanced the quality of life of this area by bringing musical enrichment to us...If you have ever wondered how it all happened, you need look no further than the two concert association ladies!" -- Donna Cole & Barbara White, Nominators Recipients: John & Dorothy Montgomery For their dedication to the Muskingum County 4-H Jr. Leadership Program "John and Dorothy have touched the lives of many people in Muskingum County through their dedication to such programs as Ohio 4-H, the Zaney Follies benefiting Hospice and Palliative Care, the Wilds, Ark Spring Baptist Church, and the Zanesville-Muskingum County Chamber of Commerce...They have invested much of their time and talents...and like Ray, are still ‘planting trees’...Our community is certainly far better as a result of this dedicated and caring couple." -- Joey Osborn & Heather Sands, Nominators Recipients: The Volunteer Doctors For their service in the Muskingum County Health Department Adult Clinic Shawn Bonner, D.O., John Caffaratti, M.D., Charles Cerney, M.D., Maria Jamiolkowski, D.O., Greg Kelso, M.D., Lisa King, M.D., David Klein, M.D., Brian W. Luft, M.D., Douglas A. Myers, M.D., Daniel B. Scheerer, M.D., Carl G. Schowengerdt, M.D., Walter J. Wielkiewicz, M.D., Jeffrey P. Williams, D.O., & Michael M. Zimmerer, M.D. "Thanks to fourteen local doctors who volunteer their time, the Health Department operates an Adult Clinic. These doctors are working after their normal workdays, to protect and improve the health of Muskingum County residents. And the need is great. Last year, 2,481 people were served in the Adult Clinic, which operates two nights a week... This clinic is very rare at most health departments. By giving a few hours each month, these doctors meet a wide variety of health care needs for many people who might not otherwise receive proper medical care." -- Robert Titko & Dr. Vicki Whitacre, Nominators Individuals and organizations are invited to nominate community volunteers from Muskingum County to receive the Thomas Award. Recipients name a local charitable organization or initiative to receive a $1,000 grant from the Muskingum County Community Foundation. The deadline for next year’s nominations is March 1, 2004. Winner(s) will be recognized at the MCCF Donor Recognition and Awards Banquet. Invitations to the Banquet are extended to donors of $1,000 or more to the Foundation’s Unrestricted Fund during the previous year.
